In his book, "Stairway To Hell", author Chuck
Eddy placed J D Blackfoot's
"The Ultimate Prophecy" at #374 on his list of the top
500 heavy albums of all time.
French author Denis Meyer rated three J D Blackfoot albums, "The
Ultimate Prophecy", "The Song of Crazy Horse", and
"Southbound and Gone" , as
EXCELLENT-GREAT, in his book "Hard Rock Anthology 1968-1980".
Those three albums were also all given "SPOTLIGHT PICKS"
in Billboard, Cashbox and Record World magazines. A feat of recognition
by the trade reviewers rarely
duplicated even by those with superstar status.

I Hate To Say Goodbye
- This 10 track storybook of songs is being acclaimed by many lifelong J.D. Blackfoot fans
as one of his finest lyrical achievements. The title track, "I Hate To Say Goodbye", was
written in memory of his Mother, Lib Van Dervort, but there is just a little bit of everyone’s
mother woven beautifully within this heart touching lyric. Fans call this track, "the song that
makes grown men cry". The entire 10 song set is a masterpiece of the telling of life through
both pain and joy, and is a "must have" for any hardcore J.D. Blackfoot fan.
John David Call, Corky Laing, and John Durzo, all of whom played on the "Yellowhand"
project, returned once again for the making of "I Hate To Say Goodbye". Also appearing
on this project is world renowned guitarist Martin Winch who hails from Auckland, New Zealand.
Martin also played on, and co-produced the "Co-Dependent Dysfunctional You" project that J.D.
recorded in New Zealand in 2001.
A collectors’ edition of "I Hate To Say Goodbye", autographed and numbered, was offered
pre-release to the members of the "Friends of J.D. Blackfoot Music" fan club for $35.00 U.S.
They were numbered 1 of 450 thru, 450 of 450 and were sold out.

Yellowhand
- This 45 minute saga, told in 18 sections, is the amazing story of a horse that witnessed
the Battle of the Little Bighorn, and continues J.D.’s legacy as one of the recording
industry’s greatest story tellers of all time. Some of J.D.’s favorite players were asked
to record with him on "Yellowhand" and they all accepted the invitation.
They are:
Corky Laing - (Mountain) Drums
John David Call - (Pure Prairie League) Pedal Steel
John Durzo - (Strongbow, Money) Fender Bass
( John Durzo also co-wrote
“ Flushed You From The Toilets of My Heart” with J D
in 1972 )
A collector’s edition of "Yellowhand", autographed by the four main players, was sold
pre-release to the members of the "Friends of J.D. Blackfoot Music" fan club, and was never offered after that pre-sale.

Ultimate Years
- was released in 2002 and is considered a "Best OF" the
first 30 years of J D's career. The two CD set contains both "
The Ultimate Prophecy" and " The Song of Crazy Horse"
as well as 24 other cuts that were recorded between 1969 and 1999.
The photo for the cover of "Ultimate Years" is the same
photo that was used for the cover of " Southbound and Gone
" which is the only album to not make it to CD. The photo,
taked by California photographer Leven Jester is, to this day, one
of J D's favorite photos of himself. J D was 31 when this photo
was taken at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA. in 1975.

Co-Dependent Dysfunctional
You - was recorded in New
Zealand at Stebbing recording, which was the same studio where J
D recorded “The Song of Crazy Horse”. It is a one-hour-and-45-minute,
two-CD story of a screwed-up relationship. One of the greatest relationship
epics ever recorded, this story will have you laughing one minute,
and crying the next. If asked, hardcore J D fans will tell you that
the two tracks from this set that you will most likely crank up
the volume on are: “Seattle Blue” and “Potosi
Ghost”. J D saved these 28 songs over a 10-year period just
for this project. After releasing
"Co-Dependent Dysfunctional You", a fan from New Zealand
e-mailed
J D that he thought that the CD was morbid and dark and that he
did not care for it. J D replied by saying “that’s because
I didn’t write it for you”. Two years later after a
concert at Pop’s Nightclub in Sauget, IL, a fan came up to
J D to get an autograph after the show, and as he was walking away,
turned back to J D and asked if he could take a minute to tell J
D something. With tears in his eyes, he told J D that he had just
gone through a horrible divorce and that he just wanted J D to know
that “Co-Dependent Dysfunctional You” had saved his
life. J D replied, “that’s because I wrote it just for
you”, and gave the man a hug. The leg model for the cover
photo was Eileen Blackfoot, J D’s wife.

Footprints
- Is a two-CD set that was released in 1998 and consists of songs
that had never appeared in an album or CD, or had never previously
been released. It also contains 5 songs from an album titled “Southbound
and Gone” which was released on the Fantasy label in 1975
but was never re-issued on CD. “Southbound and Gone”
received spotlight picks in Billboard, Cashbox, and Record World
magazines and listed as 4 stars in Billboard’s album catalogue.
Also in this collection is “ Who’s Nuts Alfred,”
a 45 released in 1969 on the Phillips label that was #1 in Columbus,OH
for 8 straight weeks. The song failed to break nationally as radio
stations thought that it carried a drug message and were afraid
to give it air time. The song carried no drug message but was rather
a message of truthfulness needed between children and parents.

Ohio Dream
- was recorded at Rome Recording in Columbus, OH in 1997, and the
title track “Ohio Dream” is the story of J D’s
father’s life. This acoustic EP is composed of ballads that
J D considered too soft for other albums and saved these songs for
just such a project. The EP also contains the song “ Missing
You In St. Louis,” a tribute to Vietnam veterans. J D was
invited to perform this tribute song at the 20th anniversary ceremony
of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, “The Wall”, in Washington,
D.C. in November of 2002. J D was greatly moved by the trip as he
found the name of one of his high school friends - John Kramer from
Beltsville, MD - written on The Wall.

Tokala
- was recorded at Sisapa Studios in Columbus, OH in 1991. It is
the sequel to “The Song of Crazy Horse”. The title track
“Tokala”, consisting of 5 songs, tells a 25-minute saga
of a young seeker who asks his Grandfather to help him find his
path and connect to the forgotten ways of the past. Tokala means
gray fox in the Lakota language. J D learned the ways of the fox
as a young boy, both from stories from his Grandfather who had fox
hounds, and his father who took him on fox hunts and told him more
of grandfather’s stories.

Live in St. Louis
- was recorded July 16th, 1982 at the Keil Opera House in St. Louis,
MO. The show was sponsored by KSHE FM and was performed in front
of a sold-out crowd of 3,800 of the most intense fans that a tape
machine ever had the opportunity of capturing. The album captured
live performances of both “ The Ultimate Prophecy “
and “ The Song of Crazy Horse “ and listed almost 1200
names of the audience that attended the show inside the album. One
story of note about this concert: J D was standing beside a city
official just prior to walking on stage. The city official had a
decibel meter in his hand. J D asked him what he was doing and the
official said he was there representing the city and that by law,
if the band played too loud, he had the right to make the band turn
down the volume. The announcer said to the audience: “St.
Louis, please welcome one of our all time favorites - J D Blackfoot“.
With a resounding roar, the audience broke the city official’s
decibel meter. The official looked at J D and said: “ NEVER
MIND”.
