Somehow the colt got away.
A survivor of Custer's Last Stand.
But the long-knives had not seen the last
     of this horse called Yellowhand.

Yellowhand would lie in wait for days.
For just the right timing of his raid.
Then he would steal the Army's horses
so they tried to kill the renegade.

On the other side of Table Rock.
     Up where the Ponderosas stand.
Inside the heart of Two Moon Canyon.
Noka was killed by a Redman.

Ghost of Montana rides with me.
Heroes and legends we will be.
     Just so you remember,
          before you call my name.
Call me the renegade, I'm just a renegade.

And now the Elders tell their stories.
And around the campfire they all sing.
About this Colt that had no friends
and the Eagle with the broken wing.

He died in a Colorado snowstorm.
He rode into history and made his stand.
But he made damn sure that they'd remember
the one that they called Yellowhand.

They found him dead in late December.
In the winter of 19 and 4 -
Down along the bank of the Platte River.
     Frozen to the canyon floor.

Ghost of Montana rides with me.
Heroes and legends we will be.
     Just so you remember,
          before you call my name.
Call me the renegade, I'm just a renegade.
