Where the Platte Rivers part, if you listen with your heart
you can hear the rolling waters sing.
The Sun is going down, and there's cool water to be found
     we can talk about everything.
They both had wounds to mend, this colt that had no friends
and the Eagle with the broken wing.

And when the Eagle turned around, I was sad when I found
     a teardrop in her eye.
She said, "Hoss' if you could take me, to the valley of my birth
     under the big Montana sky,
You could teach me how to run, like the wind upon the ground,
and I'd teach you how to fly. How to fly."

Noka said," What brings you here, to this Buffalo ground,
so young not to be afraid ?"
"I come looking for my Mother, and the rest of my kind,
taken in the white man's raid.
And I hope to find their trail, in the early morning dew,
to the north by the path they've laid."

"If you will grant me protection from my enemies on the ground
until flight is returned to me,
I will stay with you, and be your guide
     from high above the trees.
I will fly out far and wide, from up there they cannot hide,
and I'll help you set your Mother free."

And so Yellowhand and Noka, set upon the trail of life
     and they talked about everything.
And the Eagle was protected, from the Coyotes and the Wolves
and 'Hand from the horseflies' sting.
Now the Elders tell the legend, of the Colt that had no friends
and the Eagle with the broken wing.
